Boston, MA. Excerpt from Interior Design Magazine: “We want our design studio to stimulate the thinking of colleagues and clients beyond the boundaries of traditional architecture,” says Elizabeth Lowrey, principal and director of interior architecture. Artwork: THE ARK SERIES by Lida Lowrey (2008-2014).
The polished poured concrete floors and exposed ceiling infrastructure in the reception area are reminders of the 1919 origins of the former military and industrial building in which Elkus Manfredi Architects is located.
Flooded with sunlight, the employee cafeteria is a space that rejuvenates. Users of the space engage naturally with Lida Lowrey’s playful, colorful period comics. The sculpture in founding principal Howard Elkus’s office was originally commissioned for his father's office building in San Francisco. When Howard Elkus and David Manfredi founded Elkus Manfredi Architects in 1988, Elkus’s father shipped the sculpture to Boston where it has since adorned the wall of Elkus’s office through three office moves.
